Seminole Tribe of Florida on its 50th Anniversary WHEREAS the Seminole Tribe of Florida in 1957 forged its first constitution and charter; AND WHEREAS that same year, the U.S. Congress officially recognized the unconquered Seminole Tribe of Florida, stopping a U.S. government plan that would have abolished the tribe, and beginning the modern era of the Seminole Tribe of Florida; WHEREAS the courageous and determined members of the Seminole Tribe of Florida have successfully preserved their culture by resolutely refusing to accept defeat, whether at the hands of the U.S. military or when faced with the unforgiving wilderness of the Florida Everglades; AND WHEREAS the Seminole Tribe of Florida never surrendered and never gave up, standing proud today, having reached unparalleled heights of recognition and success; AND WHEREAS for six decades, Florida State University has been honored to identify itself with the Seminole Tribe of Florida and its unconquered spirit; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Florida State University officially congratulates the Seminole Tribe of Florida on the 50th anniversary of the signing of its constitution and corporate charter and wishes the Tribe continued success in all of its endeavors.
